This option determines whether RIP-Queue uses the settings in the dot pattern or the settings defined in the PostScript Halftone tab.

 

NOTE: Multi-level ink configurations (such as CMYKcm) always use the Halftone Screen setting from the dot pattern.

The Plate column shows the color channel of the screen.

The Frequency of the screen is also known as Lines Per Inch (LPI) and is dependant on the resolution that will be printed.

The Angle of the screen is usually specific to the Plate. For example, the default angle settings are 15  for Cyan, 75 for Magenta, 90 for Yellow, and 45 for Black.

The Function of the screen is the shape of the output. Available functions are Dot, Line, and Ellipse.

The Edit button allows you to change the Frequency, Angle, or Function setting of the selected Plate. When you click the Edit button, the Edit Screen Settings dialog opens (Figure 2). Use the Up and Down arrows to modify your settings.

The Reset button resets the Frequency, Angle, and Function settings to Default for the selected Plate.

Some PostScript files have an embedded halftone screen. If the screen exists, RIP-Queue uses the embedded halftone screens by default. Selecting this option overrides the embedded screens.

The Use Accurate Screens settings processes the exact screen settings. This is the most accurate method to process screens.

The number of shades determines the halftone screen size; the more shades, the larger the halftone screen and the smaller the frequency. The Default Shades value sets the number of shades for any plates that have a Frequency setting of Default.

 

NOTE: If all the plates have a setting other than Default, the Default Shades value is not used.
